Process of Fuel Polishing Combined with Tank Cleaning

Tank Cleaning Combined with Fuel Polishing approach is as follows:



1. DETERMINE FUEL CONDITION. Fuel is tested to ASTM testing methods with our mobile laboratory or handheld testing equipment to determine contamination levels, water content, free water and usability.

2. EMPTY CONTENTS. A Drew Fuel Services vacuum truck is utilized and all fuel is removed leaving the tank with just sludge, asphaltenes, microbes and slurry.

3. SETTLING PERIOD.  Fuel is kept in the Vacuum Truck for a period of at least an hour to allow the gravity of the earth to settle out large particles

4. DEGREASER TREATMENT.  With the exception of Avgas and Jet-A storage tanks, a specialized degreaser is used to assist in removing contaminants. All degreasers used are approved for petroleum tanks and do not leave a residues.

5. AUTOMATED POWER WASHING. In most cases we clean petroleum tanks without entry by utilizing an automated power washing system. If entry is required, we do have the necessary equipment to conduct tank cleanings such as LEL Meters, blowers, training, Tripods, and numerous other personal protection equipment.

6. WATER EXTRACTION. Vacuum Trucks are utilized to remove all rinse waters and residuals in the tank

7. DRYING. Specailized blowers are used to completely dry the tank.


9. RETURN FUEL. The vacuum truck is hooked up to our mobile filtration unit.

10. FUEL POLISHING/FILTRATION. Fuel is filtered from the vacuum trucks to the tanks. First through a coalescer, then a centrifuge, and finally through two 5 micron bag filters then through five 3 micron pressured filters leaving the fuel exceeding all standards.

11. USABILITY INDEX. Fuel is polished to levels of scrutiny above ASTM standards and a Usability Index is determined to gauge fuel conditions.

12. FINAL TESTING. A final running sample is conducted to ensure that the fuel meets ASTM standards and the fuel is intended for its purpose.

13. INSPECTION. A basic inspection is conducted to insure that all lids, manholes, vents, and other critical components are tight and free from leaks.

14. REPORTS. Waste disposal manifests are filled out along with field reports for future referencing.

15. WASTE. Waste generated by the vacuum truck and fuel polishing is transported to an EPA facility for disposal.

16. COMPLIANCE. All original waste manifests are mailed to the client illustrating proper disposal methods.

17. FOLLOW-UP. Depending on the facility, a future appointment is scheduled for routine fuel maintenance. Usually in intervals of 6 months, 1 or 2 years.
